Christine Houston, Managing Director
Christine Houston is the Founder and Managing Director of ESGI, a fully retained executive search firm specializing in senior level appointments in Asia for a select group of multi-national clients. The firm serves a range of diverse industry sectors, with the main areas of expertise in financial services, technology and real estate. In 2005, under Ms. Houston's leadership, ESGI was ranked by Asia Money as one of the Top 10 Best Headhunting Firms in Asia.
Ms. Houston entered the executive search profession in 1986 when she joined Korn/Ferry International. She was a Partner in the New York office for five years, during which she led and managed cross-border searches with Asia. In 1990, she joined the New York office of TASA (now known as TMP Search); and in 1994 she became the Managing Partner of the Hong Kong office. During her tenure with TASA in Hong Kong, she headed the Financial Services and Technology Practices in Asia, including Japan.
Prior to entering the executive search profession, Ms. Houston was a Vice President and Managing Director of J. Walter Thompson – Japan. Her management positions at the corporate level include Director of Marketing for Revlon Japan, and executive positions with the International Division of Avon Products for the Japan and Latin American markets. Ms. Houston worked in Japan for seven years. During that time she was a founding member of Foreign Executive Women (FEW) in Japan.
Ms. Houston holds an MBA from Fordham University in New York, and a B.A. in Economics from Hofstra University.
Mainy Chan, Executive Director
Mainy Chan joined ESGI as a Consultant in 2000, was made a Principal in 2007, and in early 2008, she was appointed Executive Director. Ms. Chan manages a team of consultants and researchers responsible for conducting senior level searches across the asset management, insurance, banking and information technology sectors.
Ms. Chan began her financial career within the Planning and Development Department of a Hong Kong bank, where she acquired a solid understanding of banking products and services. She then set her sights on a career in executive recruitment, joining a major international search practice. While there, Ms. Chan focused on assignments for middle to senior level positions across a broad range of industries in the Asia Pacific region and developed an expertise within human resources, finance, sales and information technology positions.
Ms. Chan holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Hong Kong and an M.A. in Human Resources Management and Training from Leicester University. She is a member of the British Psychological Society and is also a qualified user of Aptitude Tests, Interest Inventories and Occupational Personality Questionnaires. She speaks fluent English, Cantonese, Mandarin and Fukien dialects.
Anu Sharma, Director
Anu Sharma is a Director at ESGI in Hong Kong. Active in search since 1992, Ms. Sharma has completed searches in all areas of Global Markets and Corporate & Investment Banking across Asia and Japan.
Prior to ESGI, Ms. Sharma has worked with Asia's top ranked retained search firm where she led the research and execution efforts in Asia and Japan. She has specific expertise in areas such as trading, sales, structuring and research within Global Markets, and both coverage and product specific roles within banking and capital markets. Core clients include Investment Banks, Hedge Funds and Investment Management firms. Ms. Sharma has executed searches focused on successfully attracting Asian talent back from the West. She has also coached bankers in making career transition across function/industry.
Prior to entering executive search profession, Ms. Sharma worked with the United Nations Development Program where she was responsible for managing a social development project. As UN's global development network, UNDP advocates for change and connects developing countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. Ms. Sharma worked with women and children at the grass root level.
Ms. Sharma holds an undergraduate degree in Economics and Psychology and a Masters degree in Economics from the Bhopal University, India.
